Kilmainham victim understood to have been mugged for mobile phone

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body of a homeless man in a laneway off Madison Road in Kilmainham.

The body of the man was discovered in Dublin 8 in the early hours of this morning, September 14. Gardaí were alerted to the incident at approximately 1.30am.

The body of the man remains at the scene, with the scene is currently preserved for a technical examination and the State Pathologist has been notified.

It is understood a 16-year-old was arrested in relation to this incident near the scene, and that the man was attacked for his mobile phone. There were a number of teenagers near the area in Kilmainham at the time, RTE reports.

The teen is currently detained in Kevin Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí in Kevin Street are appealing to anyone who may have any information in relation to this matter to come forward and assist them with the investigation.

Gardai have said that investigations are ongoing.
