A GoFundMe campaign set up by Dublin woman, Dee O’Grady, raised in excess of €25,000 in support of cancer services, writes Rose Barrett.
Incredibly, Dee herself was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer when she set up the summer fundraiser.
With a dedicated support squad on board, Dee set up a series of monthly fundraisers and exceeded her goal of €20k!
“While I can’t make every challenge, I’m determined to donate,” wrote Dee. “Along with my support squad, our goal is to raise awareness and funds for three great charities – Breast Cancer Ireland, The Irish Cancer Society and ARC Cancer Support.
“These organisations represent a community of patients, survivors, volunteers, supporters, health and social care professionals and researchers. All are transforming the experiences and outcomes of people affected by cancer through their incredible support services and research.”
A breakdown of the challenges undertaken by the support squad included:
May’s challenge for Breast Cancer Ireland – A Dip A Day For May.
June’s challenge, also for Breast Cancer Ireland: 100km in 30 Days.
July’s challenge in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, Take a Spin, 500 or 1,000km.
August’s challenge in aid of ARC Cancer Support Centres – Run, Row or Walk 100km.
