Dublin restaurants and hotels have won big at the recent Georgina Campbell Irish Food and Hospitality 2020 awards.
Celebrating 21 years in their current form, the awards recognise and honour Ireland’s standard-bearers in food and hospitality, with businesses across the capital faring very well in this year’s winners.
At the awards, Campbell – one of Ireland’s leading food and hospitality writers – thanked the pioneers of Ireland’s hospitality industry and the impact they have had on the current landscape.
She said: “Many of these great people are still active and working alongside their children and often their grandchildren, and they are the pioneers of the genuine hospitality, sustainable food sourcing and innovation that Ireland is gaining a reputation for today.”
Campbell said that the rise in sustainable development in local establishments is also welcomed.
She added: “This year, in tune with our special recognition of the pioneers in Irish food and hospitality, we have also been looking particularly at sustainable development, and especially when it takes place within a family business.
“The ability to recognise the need for change and act creatively and sustainably so that they cannot just survive, but thrive, is what marks out many of our most successful multi-generational businesses – some of which have re-invented themselves several times in recent decades.”
Among the Dublin winners of the prestigious awards were The Shelbourne Hotel for best Business Hotel of the Year; Grano Restaurant in Stoneybatter, Best Ethnic Restaurant of the Year; and Chapter One, Wine and Drinks Experience.
Kildare’s Aimsir won Best Restaurant of the Year, while Best Hotel of the Year went to Marfield House Hotel in Wexford.
