An animal charity in Clondalkin has issued a warning to members of the public asking them not to allow young people to get pet ducklings, writes Kim O’Leary.
The Clondalkin Animal Aid has said that is aware of a new trend where teenagers raise ducklings as pets.
Taking to social media, they urged parents to not allow their children to get ducks as pets.
“Please do not allow your teenager to get a pet duck. They do not do well without other ducks and many people do not understand their needs. The poor ducklings are being taken away from their mothers too early and will not do well,” it said in a statement.
The recent trend has emerged on social media in recent months in Ireland and the UK with people hatching ducklings from eggs sold in supermarkets.
