Donabate/Portrane Irish Girl Guides to close

by Rose Barrett

“It is with great sadness that I write this post,” wrote Jutta Tobin on Facebook. “After 35 years of Irish Girl Guides being present in Donabate/ Portrane, we have no option but to close our units,” writes Rose Barrett.

After nearly 25 years of volunteering, Ms Tobin said she was alas, stepping down and fellow volunteer leader Emer was forced to step down from the Brownies and Girl Guides, owing to her work schedule.

“We have repeatedly tried to secure more volunteers but alas, we just can’t keep it going. I wish to thank all the wonderful volunteers who have helped with the various units over the years; thanks for your commitment, dedication and mostly your time in making the Ladybirds, Brownies and Guides a wonderful organization to be part of.

“On behalf of Edel Weston, Lisa Buckley and myself, may I extend thanks to the many parents over the years for their help too. Final word of thanks to all the girls who have passed through the units as they made volunteering worthwhile.”
