Clontarf woman tragically killed following assault named locally

An elderly woman killed following an assault at her home in Clontarf on Sunday has been named locally as 88-year-old Neasa Murray.

Neasa had lived alone in her home in Kincora Court in Clontarf since her husband passed away in 2018.

She was assaulted and fatally injured at her home on Sunday evening, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 60s, who is believed to have been well known to Neasa and lived close by, is currently being held at Clontarf Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Gardai are not looking for anyone else in relation to the fatal assault.

In a statement released on Sunday evening, Gardai said: “A female received fatal injuries as a result of the incident [in Clontarf]. Her body remains at the scene. The scene is currently preserved and the State Pathologist has been notified.

“A male was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in Clontarf Garda Station.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
