Fundraising for young cancer patient

by Rachel Cunningham

Tallaght Fire Station is organising a charity car wash to fundraise for seven-year-old Faye Miley, who is currently fighting brain cancer, writes Rachel Cunningham.

Dublin Fire Brigade will be hosting the event in aid of the young Dubliner this Sunday, to help to fund Faye’s treatment.

Described by her family as a “funny, happy, excited seven-year-old”, Faye’s family’s “worst nightmare was confirmed” when persistent headaches and vomiting were diagnosed as a tumour in April of this year.

Although 80 per cent was removed through surgery, days later the family received further devastating news. Faye was diagnosed with a high-grade form of cancer and her family was told that the prognosis was poor.

On her GoFundMe page, they wrote: “Faye has reacted extremely well to her surgery, recovery and her radiotherapy. She is our hero and our inspiration.

“Unfortunately, we have a long road ahead, and we will have to travel for further treatment that is unavailable in Ireland to help our little princess. Sadly, this will not be funded by the HSE.”

The car wash will be in Tallaght Fire Station on Belgard Road between 3 and 9pm and all proceeds have been promised to Faye’s care.
