Cycling enthusiasts and business partners Paul Ryan and Mark McBride have recently launched a pop up bicycle repair shop at Howth pier – and they’ve literally the pedal to the floor at weekends with service and repairs.
The pair, who run a company servicing and supplying cookery and refrigeration equipment to the catering/bar trade, found they went from working six days a week to zero during the pandemic spread.
“I became a stay at home dads with two little girls, Emma (5) and Molly (2),” Paul. “But I’ve been cycle racing since I was 16 and always maintained my own bikes.
“Cycling, like walking and fitness, has seen a huge resurgence during the restrictions. Sean Doran who owns the building for the former surf shop gave Mark and I the opportunity to use it for our own bicycle repairs.
“But the demand was there for a bike repair service so three weeks ago, we opened a pop-up shop and the demand is crazy!
“We open from 11am-4pm on Saturday and Sundays, and we’ve been inundated with locals bringing in kids’ bikes, up to high end racing bikes. It’s been so busy, we are involved with Rothair na Fianna based in the Drumcondra/Raheny area”.
“Aside from the fitness benefit, there’s a social aspect to cycling. So, drop into us at ‘Meet Cha on the Pier’ in Howth! Email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone Paul at 089 6115884.
