A 15-year-old boy is continuing to receive treatment in hospital after a vicious attack in Inchicore on Sunday.
Gardai suspect the unsuspecting victim was lured to the area by a girl before he was viciously set upon by a gang of youths, some of whom were reportedly armed with iron bars.
The boy, who is from the Tallaght area, suffered a broken leg, broken arm and several broken ribs in the shocking assault which was witnessed by several people. Some onlookers rang 999 and contacted emergency services.
When gardai arrived at the scene the boy was discovered at a nearby Luas stop. He was then rushed to Crumlin Children’s Hospital for treatment.
Investigating officers believe some of the attackers may have been caught on CCTV during the assault or on their way to the location where it took place.
The incident happened at Vincent Street West in Inchicore at around 5pm on Sunday. As of Tuesday evening the boy was still too unwell to make a statement to officers.
Investigators are also looking into the possibility the assault was organised on social media.
In a statement, a garda spokesman said: “Gardai are investigating an assault incident that occurred in the Saint Vincent Street West area of Inchicore on 14/03/2021 at approximately 5pm.
“A male youth, aged 15 years, received serious injuries following an assault reportedly involving a group of youths. He was taken to Crumlin Children’s Hospital for treatment.
No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
