Welcome to the brand new wine column from Dublin Gazette, we hope you enjoy some of our recommendations and that you learn a little more about what is available to buy that is worth a try.

Each month we will look at two wines, starting with two summery wines for August, a Rosé and a lighter style red from New Zealand.  Slainte!

2020 Doña Paula Rosé  €15.00

This Argentine wine is made from a red grape called Malbec, using the classic Rosé method.  They pick the grapes early to keep the fresh acidity, and ferment the wine with the grape skins for a short time in order to get the lovely salmon pink colour. Then they finish the fermentation using the same process as they do for white wine.   This is bone dryRosé, with 12.5% alcohol.  It has gorgeous floral aromas and a lovely dry finish with flavours of raspberry and cherry.  Enjoy this with a range of lighter dishes  such as salmon & pasta salad or garlic prawns. A refreshing versatile Rosé that is ideal for summer drinking.  Available from: SuperValu, Tesco & Dunnes Stores.

2020 Doña Paula Rosé  €15.00

2019 Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir €46.80

Looking for a “push the boat out” wine as a gift or to celebrate? Why not try one of New Zealand’s most iconic wines, Cloudy Bay.  Pinot Noir is the great red grape of Burgundy, but has found its natural home in New Zealand.  Cloudy Bay’s carefully selected Pinot Noir sites are located within the southern Wairau Valley Vineyards in the Marlborough region. This wine has gorgeous aromas of blackberry and cherry, and tastes of soft plum fruit with hints of chocolate and a touch of spice.  There is also a layer of acidity and very approachable tannin which makes this wine so easy to drink when the weather is hot.

2019 Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir €46.80
