About one-third of Irish people are dog owners, but not a lot of people consider bringing their beloved pooch them on holiday with them.
With the warm weather rolling in, now is the perfect time for a quick weekend getaway with your beloved family pet. Pack up their leashes, food bowls and dog treats – here’s some of Dogs Trust’s picks of the most dog-friendly places throughout the country!
Donegal
Donegal is home to the second largest national park in all of Ireland, Glenveagh, which is perfect for long walks. The park has beautiful gardens and castles for you to discover while your pooch is taking in the views.
A perfect place to stay is at the luxurious Lough Eske Castle, that not only welcomes dogs and cats, but caters to them. There are dog amenities such as grooming, dog walking and even a bed basket upon arrival.
Also, the Olde Castle Bar is a fantastic place to bring your dog and get a bite to eat that is located in Donegal’s town. Your dog will be well hydrated and so will you.
Clare

Westmeath
The place to stay in Westmeath is Woodlands Farm, close to the monastic settlement of Clonmacnoise and overlooking the River Shannon. This 120 acre farm is home to pet donkeys and will be a welcoming place for you and your pooch.

Waterford
This dog loving area is home to the Cliff Townhouse in Ardmore that offers dog-friendly rooms and the opportunity to dine with your dog in your room or on the outdoor terrace.

Tipperary
The beautiful mountainous views ensure Tipp is the perfect place for a holiday with your dog and family. The Ballyboy Farm Guesthouse and Gardens is the perfect place to stay while enjoying the Galty, Comeragh and Slievenamon mountain views.
