THE KING AND I, beloved musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, is set in the Kingdom of Siam in the 1860s. The story revolves around the British schoolteacher Anna Leonowens and her relationship with the Siamese king Mongkut starring West End’s Annalene Beechey and Broadways Darren Lee.
The original movie adaptation starred Julie Andrews and Yul Brynner – the chemistry was amazing and in recent years, Andrews recorded the music with Ben Kingsley on an album which proved very popular ‘The King and I – Recording a Hollywood Dream (1993)’.
