Ten talented students recognised

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and the Institute of Art, Design, and Technology (IADT) have awarded the first-ever sponsored sports scholarships to 10 students.

This funding opportunity celebrates these exceptional student-athletes and the role that sports play in their lives.   

The sports funding provided is being used by the selected recipients to enhance their Sporting Achievements and help them to enhance all their efforts during their time in IADT. It is hoped as a result, successful recipients and indeed all those interested in Sport will be further encouraged to develop their own sporting skills and to promote interests in Sports in IADT. 

The ten winners are: 

Erasmuns Adjei, who studies Business Management and Entrepreneurship, has been playing football professionally with Newry City FC in Northern Ireland for two years. 

Johnathan Masueme, who studies Business Management and Entrepreneurship, plays football for Dundalk FC and won an all-Ireland final when he was 17. 

John Renier Ubaldo, who is studying Animation, has been playing volleyball for two years. He helped set up the ‘Carrick Crows’ volleyball club and plays in the national volleyball league. 

Seán Kelly, who is finishing his degree in Photography, has been practising Kickboxing since he was ten years old. He has won several national titles and some world titles in the WOMAA organisation. 

Éilis O’Neill, who studies Animation, plays Hockey for the Loreto Hockey club. She, along with her team, also won the Irish Senior Cup and Leinster Cup when she was in school. 

Scott Li, who studies Photography, has been practising ITF Taekwon-do for 15 years. He is currently a second degree blackbelt, is on the Irish National Team, and has placed on the podium in multiple European events. 

Oisín O’Sullivan, who studies 3d Design, Modelmaking, and Digital Art, has been training in Taekwondo for 12 years. He has achieved awards in both national and international competitions. 

James Byrne, who is studying Business Management and Entrepreneurship, represented Wicklow on the Senior County Hurling Team and is now captain of the IADT football team. 

Michael Lambert, who studies business, is captain of the IADT Surf Club and has been competing for two years in surfing. Michael takes great pride in teaching surfing to his fellow students. 

Hazel Simmons, who is studying Business Management, is playing rugby in the All-Ireland League (AIL). Her team is currently in the cup final for AIL and won the cup last year.
