A lovely lead into Christmas Day – on Christmas Eve, Saturday 24, the Crib Service will be held at 5pm in St Mary’s Church, Howth followed by a performance by St Mary’s International Children’s Choir.

The children’s choir began in October 2022 and has membership of both Irish and Ukrainian children and is expertly conducted by Ms Yulia Kostomarova.

The Christmas Eve programme includes carols and Christmas music in both Ukrainian and English.

Speaking about the choir, St Mary’s Rector Reverend Philip Heak said:

“Since July, Ukrainians have found a warm welcome at St Mary’s Church where we operate a drop-in centre, conversation classes, a ‘Free Shop’ with emergency supplies and work closely with the Irish Red Cross and Irish Refugee Council.

“Юлия Костомаров or Yulia Kostomarova, joined us from Kiev and as both organist and choir director, has been inspirational in the work she achieves. The development of the International Children’s choir is so exciting and brings together both Ukrainian and Irish in music and song.

“There is a joy in singing and it is wonderful to see the children participating. What better way than music to draw people together in community ” added Rev Heak.

The crib service begins at 5pm, no charge, all welcome. The Friday Hub and Thursday Conversation Classes at St Mary’s Parish Centre will take a break over Christmas and

recommence the week of February 2, 2023. A happy and safe Christmas to all our parishioners
