Specsavers Donaghmede raise over €2,000 for St Francis Hospice

Fundraisers acknowledge the support of local businesses and community

Well done to SPECSAVERS Donaghmede which raised more than €2,000 for St Francis Hospice in Raheny, Dublin. As part of the Together for Hospice partnership between Bewley’s Coffee and hospices across Ireland, Specsavers hosted a Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning Social for St Francis Hospice last month.

Specsavers customers arrived in their droves to support the fundraiser and kindly donated to the hospice.  

In addition to the delicious cakes from Kay’s Kitchen, Donaghmede, Specsavers held a raffle for those who attended.

The staff would like to thank the local businesses who supported including; The Maldron Hotel at Dublin Airport, Kay’s Kitchen, Dunnes Stores, Pride & Joy Gifts, Pride & Joy Jewellers, McDonalds Donaghmede, Bewley’s, Butlers Chocolate, Allcare Pharmacy, Athletic Sports, Cassidy Travel, Kerrigan’s Butchers, Floral Design, Moffits Shoes, Shoes By Patrick, Wingman and Naomh Barrog.

The team at Specsavers Donaghmede have been fundraising for the hospice since the store opened in October 2018 through their glasses repairment initiative, where Specsavers Donaghmede do not charge for basic glasses repairments but instead ask customers to kindly make a donation to St Francis Hospice.

Speaking about the fundraiser, Jason Reynolds, retail partner at Specsavers Donaghmede, said: “We are delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause. Being able to give back to our community is really important to colleagues and we all wanted to support the essential work of St Francis Hospice, Raheny.”

St Francis Hospice provides a specialist palliative care service for the people of north Dublin city and county and surrounding counties. They are a voluntary organisation under the care of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. Some of the services they provide are Community Palliative Care, Hospice Day Services, Inpatient Units and Bereavement Care.

Aine Hughes, team leader, Community Palliative Care Team, St Francis Hospice Dublin said: “Thank you so much to Specsavers Donaghmede for their fantastic donation. St Francis Hospice has been providing specialist palliative care services to the people of North Dublin for more than 30 years, with no cost to patients and their families, thanks to the generous support of our community and through fundraising events such as that carried out by Specsavers.

“It is an honour to work with the wonderful team at St Francis Hospice who continue to provide professional and compassionate care to our patients. As a community palliative care nurse, it is very rewarding to support patients and their families at this challenging time in their lives. ”

Specsavers Donaghmede opened its doors in 2018; as a local community optician and hearing centre, they continue to support local charities is a key part of the store’s culture.
