THE family of DJ Matt Corrigan have paid tribute to the people of Dublin for giving him “a funeral like no other”.
The popular dad-of-four died suddenly last week following a lengthy battle with depression. His death shocked the tight-knit community in Dublin’s north inner city where he lived and at the weekend they gave him a special farewell party.
His daughter Natalie, who is also a DJ, spun the decks as mourners wearing custom-made t-shirts in his memory gathered to celebrate his life.
Posting on social media afterwards Natalie said: “Waking up today it just feels like it was all a dream. It was a funeral like no other and it will go down in history.

“To people who organised and who warmed our hearts with the party of a lifetime yesterday. We could not believe the incredible tributes paid to him yesterday.”
Local gardai displayed Matt’s initials on the roof of their patrol car and the community sang as one voice to remember their hero, as his 81-year-old “broken, proud mother” came out of her home to dance to his memory.
Matt’s daughter Sophie paid tribute to her dad on RTE’s Liveline, explaining that while his death was not directly due to Covid-19, the conditions brought about by the pandemic had made life more difficult for him.
She said: “It’s what’s going on in the world right now and of course everybody’s suffering with that right now. There’s so many people out there and there’s such sadness around it.”
Sophie added: “There’s so many people that love and respect him. He was always known as DJ Matt… that was his name. He touched everybody through music. To me, he was known as my Da and he was known as my best friend.”
Urging anyone who is struggling to seek help she said: “Speak out. Find someone to talk to. Do not bottle it in. Because life is way too precious.”
