Disappointment yesterday for the Irish ladies in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers when they lost 1-0 to Australia, albeit it was before an Aussie home crowd and the hosts are tournament favourites.
It’s a rest day today for the girls in green but Nigeria and Canada have already played earlier, culminating in a 0-0 draw.

Yesterday, the co-hosts Australia beat the Republic of Ireland before a massive crowd of 83,000 in Sydney Stadium in the narrowest of margins, 1-0.
It was a stalwart performance from the Irish side when the Aussie captain Steph Catley converted a penalty to claim points and win the match.

Prior to the game, ROIand Australia players observe a minute of silence for the victims of the Auckland shooting before the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Group B match between Australia and Republic of Ireland at Stadium Australia in Sydney, Australia.

The Irish team will be out next Wednesday against Canada in their next qualifier.
