The Irish Institute of Music & Song (IIMS) is hosting the 2023 International Songwriting Retreat from July 24-30 in Balbriggan, writes Rose Barrett.

This seven-day retreat is unique in Ireland, and offers professional songwriters and serious amateurs from around the world, an opportunity to work with some of the best songwriting mentors in the industry.

IMRO partnered with the IIMS to sponsor two scholarship places on the International Songwriting Retreat. From a large number of applications received, the scholarships were awarded to songwriters Emma Langford (Co Limerick) and Jess Meyer originally from South Africa, now living in Co Kerry.

Both songwriters are very much looking forward to working with retreat mentors which include Rob Wells from Canada, who has written songs for Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, alongside Maria Christensen from Los Angeles, author of music for Jennifer Lopez and Celine Dion.

Other retreat mentors include Shridhar Solanki (UK), who has worked with Dua Lipa, Andrea Bocelli, Craig David and Carrie Underwood, and Ruth-Anne Cunningham (Ireland), who has composed music for Britney Spears, The Corrs and One Direction.

Mentors have written music for some of the world’s biggest record labels, including Universal, Warner and Sony. The retreat includes seven days working with world renowned songwriting mentors, seven nights’ on-site accommodation in modern Japanese style pods, all meals onsite and access to private rehearsal spaces.

There will be VIP membership to a series of six industry evening talks which will be presented by some of Ireland’s best known songwriters, including Paddy Casey and Duke Special. A non-resident package is also available but excludes accommodation and meals. Remaining spaces are limited. Register your interest now at internationalsongwritingretreat.com.
