Councillor Francis Timmons has raised the refurbishment of a number of old historical building in Clondalkin, writes Rachel Cunningham.
The councillor for the Clondalkin, Newcastle, Rathcoole, Saggart and Brittas Area on South Dublin County Council mentioned the Fairview Oil Mill and St Cuthberts Church, both in the ownership of South Dublin County Council, at the July council meeting.
“If the Fairview Oil Mill and St Cuthberts Church are left the way they are some storm will come and destroy the,” said Councillor Timmons.
“Both building could be saved and repurposed for art, entertainment or as educational buildings. There are plenty of needs in South Dublin and both these buildings could help meet them and increase our tourism potential in the county.”
“I am calling on planners not to continue to destroy our village and heritage but to work with the local community to ensure that we keep our heritage and village feel,” he added.
