Award-winning dog groomer Cathy Bruen.

A trainee dog groomer from Ballinteer wants to thank her teacher for teaching her so much about the business.

Hannah O’Byrne (25) is working in Canine Creations in Sandyford. Her teacher Cathy Bruen is a multi-award-winning groomer with many years’ experience all over the world.

Hannah says Cathy is a lovely person who has a very kind nature and loving relationships with all dogs she meets.

“Cathy started grooming over 10 years ago. During 2010 & 2016 she lived and worked in Australia. During her time there she trained with Christine Speerin who is the leader of the Australian Olympic Groom Team.

“Cathy competed in 11 grooming competitions in Australia having gained awards in grooming the West Highland White Terrier, the Miniature Schnauzer, the English Cocker Spaniel, the Poodle, the Shih Tzu, the Cavachon, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, the Airedale Terrier and more.

“She returned to Ireland in May 2016 and opened Canine Creations Dog Day Spa in Sandyford Village in July 2016. She is very passionate about beautifying dogs.

“She is enthusiastic about educating dog owners about the importance on regular grooming for all dogs, whether they have long or short hair.

“The dogs really love her, and she takes great care of each and every one, treating them as her own.”

“Cathy has taught me many things. From the difference of each dog that walks into the salon, to their personality, traits and the relationship between dog and owner.”

Back in September 2017, Dublin Gazette featured a story about Hannah when she described her horror after her dog Penny was attacked with a firework while out for a walk.

We asked Hannah how her pug is doing now.

“Penny is doing great. Her ear has healed fully, and her hearing is better than first expected. She is now more alert when we are out as she is always looking back to see where I am if she is off the lead. She spends most of her time under my feet since the accident, but if that’s where she feels safe then I don’t mind.”
