Tower Credit Union Ltd (formerly known as Clondalkin Credit Union Ltd) was founded on Friday 28th September 1962 at a general meeting held in the library on Monastery Road. Forty five people were present at the inaugural general meeting.
The initial savings of the credit union amounted to £101, which was collected from the 45 members present at the inaugural meeting. Today, Tower Credit Union has grown to over 47,000 members with savings in excess of €175 million and loans of over €47 million.
Next week we celebrate ‘A Lifetime Together’ with our 60th Anniversary. To commemorate our history within the wider community, our branches will host individual coffee mornings on Thursday 29th of September, between 10am – 12noon. We would like to invite any member who is passing by to pop in and say hello to informally meet staff and board members for tea/coffee and buns.
We are committed to continuing our legacy for the next 60 years, providing excellent financial services to all our members and both old and new. All our members can continue to have access and friendly financial services whether it’s face to face across all our branches. Celbridge Credit Union mergers with Tower Credit Union.
We are delighted to welcome members of Celbridge Union following the completion of our merger on Friday last, the 17th of September. The Board, Volunteers and Staff of both credit unions have been working together, for a number of months to make this merger work in the best interests of both credit unions and their members.
Tower Credit Union is now one of Ireland’s largest community credit unions and the increase in scale will allow us to offer a wider range of products and services to all members. Following the merger Tower Credit Union has just over 47,000 members from a wide geographical area incorporating Greenhills, Clondalkin, Neilstown, Brittas, Citywest, Rathcoole, Saggart, Park West, Newcastle and now Celbridge.
