Tesco’s newest store officially opened in Swords this morning, creating 85 jobs.
The 22,359sq ft store at Airside Retail Park includes a butcher, bakery, fish counter and sandwich bar.
Seventy of the new store’s employees have been sourced from the Fingal area, including 42 from Swords.
Local suppliers to the store include several Fingal businesses such as Rush parsnip supplier Dessie Farrell; Lusk cauliflower grower Brian Weldon; the Foley Brothers and Alan Kelly – tomato suppliers from Rush; and Ballyboughal onion supplier David Rogers.
Commenting on the latest opening, Tesco Ireland CEO, Andrew Yaxley said, “We are delighted to be able to create 85 new permanent positions at our new Tesco store in Swords which is a great boost for the local community.
“The full Tesco Swords team is committed to providing customers with the best shopping experience with an extensive range of quality fresh Irish foods, many of which have been sourced locally from North County Dublin.
“The store layout is designed to provide an enhanced more engaging shopping experience which we hope our customers enjoy.
Tesco emplpys more than 13,000 people in Ireland and the new store brings the UK firm’s total number of Irish stores to 149.
