Swords and District Lions Club has undertaken a new kind of fundraiser to replace its traditional Christmas collections due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Club members did a three trek challenge – sponsored walks in Howth Head, Newbridge House and Malahide Castle, covering a total of 21km.

As food items cannot be physically collected this year the club is going to provide funding for food vouchers instead which will be distributed by the five local SVP conferences.

Club President Mark O’Brien said people are struggling to make ends meet and are greatly in need of assistance.

He added: “We depend heavily on the generosity of the local community and are asking for your kind support in contributing towards this very worthy and necessary cause.” Donations can be made at www.iDonate.ie/ThreeTrekChallenge or through Swords Lions Facebook page or website: www.swordslionsclub.ie.

The club supports a range of groups and events including Senior Citizens Holiday in Trabolgan, St Michael’s House (provision of minibus), Fingal Counselling Service in BASE, Snowflakes (Autism Support), Swords Mens’ Shed and other needy causes.
