The iconic St James’s Gate is set for a massive transformation, bringing a “world-class urban quarter” to the Liberties.
Diageo’s vision to create one of the “most dynamic urban quarters in Ireland and Europe” was announced this week as the brewers unveiled their ambitious plans for the Dublin 8 site.
Diageo bosses are now searching for a development partner for the project which will see 12.6 acres of its nearly 50 acre site developed in a venture that will “embrace new and old”, to create a mixed-use development called the St James’s Gate
Quarter.
The plan aims to open up the site, using new and existing buildings to create a mixed-use urban quarter that will include residential, office and commercial space.
The new quarter will be opened up with public spaces and streets and will be fully integrated into the wider Liberties area.
Diageo Ireland’s Oliver Loomes said: “This unique relationship between past and future makes St. James’s Gate an extraordinary place.

A feasibility study submitted to DCC suggests that the 12.6 acre site has the potential to deliver 63,000 sq m of office space, 5,000 sq m retail space and 22,000 sq m towards hotel and leisure.
It could also deliver 500 new homes with a 48,000 sq m residential opportunity.
Mr Loomes added: “We are transforming our centuries-old vat houses, brew houses and cooperages into incredible spaces that will house and inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs, residents and
