An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Lettie McCarthy has opened a new cycle route in Sandyford, writes Amy Rohu.
The new route measuring over 2.5km runs between Drummartin Link Road and Kilgobbin Road, with a spur link to Sandyford Village, reconnecting two areas on opposite sides of the M50 motorway. The works necessitated a complete reconfiguration of road space and traffic signals at three major junctions. In addition to major civil works, over 250 semi-mature trees were planted, with numerous sections of wildflower meadow verge to improve biodiversity.
Speaking at the opening, Cllr Lettie McCarthy said: “We are very fortunate to have received 100% funding for all works from the National Transport Authority. I wish to express our sincere gratitude for this – without funding, this scheme could not have become a reality and we would not be here today to celebrate its opening.”
