The long hard work of the outdoors during the summer months may well be behind us, but Rush Tidy Towns have still a busy season ahead. Already, they are planning a workshop on Saturday 30 at the community centre on how to achieve Sustainable Development Goals through an interactive, fun event with ECO UNESCO. The workshop will run from 3.30-4.30pm, all welcome.

After that, it’s a series of events planned from a final seed and plant exchange to Halloween and of course, their annual local photograph competition for the Christmas calendar.
Only last week, Chair Brendan O’Reilly was guest speaker at the Ballyhoura Development CLG Tidy Towns awards for East Limerick & North Cork. “The main emphasis was on our work around Climate Action, and how so much of what we do can be mapped to each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The presentation can be viewed at: https://online.fliphtml5.com/pzrmw/itvq/?fbclid=IwAR3CJvhW9jduXHAxXZ1RU-G06ebHn92Jn-kPpuUVI6mXu17X1Q0QQoqL-1Y#p=1,” said Brendan. Rush TTs thanked all who provided photos to showcase the presentation.

On Sunday, October 22, Rush TTs will host another Community Seed and Plant Sharing Event at Rush Community Centre, from 2-3pm. It’s a nice social event too, with teas and coffees served. “Come down with a bucket if you have one or a big plant pot to sow your own onions. If you don’t have a bucket or plant plot, don’t worry, there will be some available on the day,” said Philip Kirrane of Rush TTs.
There will be young seedlings, onions, and harvested seeds for anyone who wants to collect them. If you have seeds harvested, store them in a paper envelope or bag with the plant marked, eg ‘lupins’ and if you can’t make Sunday 22’s event, you can drop them into the Community Centre from October 10.

Halloween is just around the corner so that can only mean one thing: Let’s Play Rush Spooktacular Halloween Event! Hosted in Kenure Wood on Sunday, October 29, the fun ghostly event will be hosted from 3-5pm – keep an eye on Rush Tidy Towns on FB for registration details.

A reminder to all photograph enthusiasts: the competition to have your photos included in the Rush Tidy Towns 2024 calendar will be ending soon so submit your entries before it is too late. We are keen to get a wide variety of shots from sea to land, sports to life around the town covering all seasons. This year we will be using more than one photo per month so you have a greater chance of having your photograph selected!
All winning photos will get a free 2024 calendar. Please send all shots by e-mail to [email protected] and good luck. Please bear in mind that the images need to be of adequate resolution to print out on A4 size so a photo shared on WhatsApp or a low resolution phone will not work.
