Congratulations to Rebecca Gillen from Rathfarnham who came second in a national competition to find Ireland’s best young baker.
Rebecca, a student at St Colmcille’s CS, Knocklyon, was named runner up in the senior category with her decadent seven-layer, gluten-free French style cake.
The competition was launched in September by Kenwood with the Association of Teachers of Home Economics.
Judges included chef Patrick Ryan and De’Longhi manager Susan Coleman who sifted through the entries to crown the Kenwood Young Baker.
The judging panel was completed by Sinead Keegan, president of ATHE, who believes the skills and knowledge the subject of home economics equips young people with is invaluable for their future wellbeing.
Rebecca won a Kenwood Chefette and a certificate for her entry.
We’ve no doubt she’ll be using it to bake up a storm in the run up to Christmas!
