A bus route from Rathcoole to the city centre which was at risk under BusConnects plans has been declared safe after it was included in the final design.
People Before Profit TD for Dublin Mid-West Gino Kenny said he was “delighted” it had been saved, however he said concerns still remain about the frequency of the service that will run through Lucan.
He said: “Investment in public transport is crucial for the Lucan area. With Adamstown and Clonburris the population will continue to grow and significant investment is needed to ensure a good quality of life for existing and new residents.”
One area of west Dublin, Balgaddy which previously had no operating bus service will now see two local bus routes serving the residents. A new route from The Red Cow Inn in Clondalkin to the city centre via the Palmerstown Woods housing estate will also be implemented.
Councillor for Clondalkin, Madeleine Johansson said: “The new local routes for Balgaddy are very welcome, for the first time the area will have a bus service running through it.
“The local routes will also allow people to travel between Clondalkin and Lucan by public transport.
“The new 60 route which will go past Palmerstown Woods will provide a bus service to residents there for the first time.”
The NTA said the BusConnects plan will mean the number of people living within 400 metres of a frequent bus service to the city centre will increase by 16% to 925,000.
