Paul Sherwood elected as President of the Press Photographers Association of Ireland

Dublin based freelance photographer, Paul Sherwood, has been elected the new President of the Press Photographers Association of Ireland.

The announcement was made at the association’s annual AGM which took place in March 2021.

Originally from Guildford, Surrey in the UK, Paul has been a full-time professional photographer for over 40 years, having started his career with his local newspaper, The Surrey Advertiser, in 1980. Following this Paul moved onto work for a press agency serving the needs of the UK’s national newspapers before spending six years working for a motoring magazine covering assignments throughout the UK and Europe.

Paul moved to Dublin in 1996 and set up as a freelance photographer where he continued shooting both press and PR photography. He joined the Press Photographers Association of Ireland in 2013 and took up the role of Treasurer for the Association at the end of 2017. Paul held this role until his recent appointment as President.

Speaking about his new role, Paul Sherwood, President of the PPAI, commented, “I’m honoured to have been elected as President of the PPAI and I look forward, along with the new Committee, to serving its members and enhancing the Association during my term in office.”

The new PPAI Committee for 2021 / 2022 comprises of:

  • Lorraine O’Sullivan (Speciality – Sports Photography) – Vice President
  • David Branigan (Speciality – Sailing Photography) – Secretary
  • Dermot O’Shea (Retired Picture Editor of The Irish Times) – Membership Secretary
  • Lorraine Teevan (Speciality – News & Features photography) – Treasurer
  • James Crombie (Speciality – Sports Photography, also the current PPAI Photographer of the Year and the photographer who captured the recent Murmuration photo that went viral) – PRO
  • Justin Mac Innes (Speciality – Press & PR photography) – Executive Member
  • Alison O’Hanlon (Speciality – Picture Editor, Dublin Gazette – Executive Member
