Gardai in Rathfarnham, South Dublin are appealing for public information following the burning of a new woodland playground in Rathfarnham Castle Park last Friday evening April 8, writes Amy Rohu.

Staff from South Dublin County Council discovered that materials for a new playground had been deliberately set on fire and burnt. The Council have re-ordered new equipment to proceed with the woodland playground.

Speaking about the incident, Local Rathfarnham Councillor David McManus said: “I am beyond furious that part of our new woodland playground was burnt in a deliberate fire. These thugs have vandalised public property and are a thundering disgrace. This new €50,000 playground was being installed following representations that I and local residents had made to South Dublin County Council, with works having started recently in March.

More public money will need to be spent for new playground equipment. I am appealing to local residents, if you saw anything suspicious last Friday night around Rathfarnham Castle Park, please contact Rathfarnham Garda Station on 01 666 6082.”
