A Fianna Fáil Senator has welcomed the cross-party support for her Free provision of Period Products Bill 2021, which passed Second Stage in the Seanad on Monday evening.
Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee welcomed the support of her bill, saying there’s ‘a real desire’ for the bill to become law.
Senator Clifford-Lee said: “I’m happy to have gotten cross party support for my bill at second stage yesterday.
“The bill now moves on to committee stage and I will begin engaging immediately with Dept of Health officials as well as my colleagues in the Women’s Caucus to progress beyond committee stage as soon as possible.
“There is a real desire for the bill to move as quickly as possible and become law.”
Senator Clifford-Lee continued: “The Minister for Health has committed immediate funds to support those in most urgent need and will be distributed through food banks and other key groups.”
“The release yesterday of the sub-committee report on Period Poverty from the National Women and Girls Strategy was a very welcome step on the road to eradicating period poverty.”
