The January Cost of Living Double Payment will be paid this week to support 317,445 Pensioners, Carers, Lone Parents and People with Disabilities across Dublin.

Fine Gael Deputy Emer Higgins said that 1.3 million people nationally will benefit from the €342 million in increased supports, as announced by Fine Gael Minister of Social Protection Heather Humphreys today.

“This welcome support is designed to continue to ease the pressure that many households continue to face due to the Cost of Living.

“Just like the Christmas bonus, eligible recipients will automatically receive the payments in addition to, and on the same day, as they usually receive their primary payment so there’s no need to apply.

“Over the past two and a half years, Fine Gael in Government has rolled out unprecedented financial supports to help families and households to deal with the cost of living.

“The Social Protection package in Budget 2024 was the largest in the history of the State. This is the ninth lump sum payment made as part of the budget and it further highlights the government’s commitment to support those who are most in need.

“In addition, Minister Humphreys has also secured across-the-board welfare increase of €12 per week starting this month, as well as a range of targeted measures set to take effect throughout 2024.

“These are just some of the many ways that Fine Gael is putting money back in your pocket” Higgins said.

“We are aware that the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact families throughout Dublin Mid West and that people are still feeling the pinch, particularly after the Christmas period. These payments will go a long way in supporting people in our communities,” concluded Higgins.
