A man on a container ship was last night rescued after falling overboard and spending over an hour in the sea off the Wicklow coast.

At approx 10pm last night, the alarm was raised when the man was reported  to be missing.

A joint operation swung into action between Wicklow RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat  and the Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter 116 in a  bid to rescue the  crewman.

Weather conditions in the area  were said to be very calm with good visibility which helped the search parties locate the missing person, who was transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
