[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]A Monkstown woman has been nominated for a Community Hero Award for her 18 years of volunteering at The Ronald McDonald House.
Marian Carroll was put forward for the Charity Impact Awards which was organised by charity The Wheel.
The Community Hero Award is a lifetime achievement award honouring people who have made an extraordinary contribution to a good cause over the course of their lives.
Since 2000, Marian has been Volunteer CEO of Ronald McDonald House (RMHC), who support families whose children are seriously ill in hospital.
Over that time, Marian has successfully steered the charity and the Ronald McDonald House which to date has looked after the families of over 3,600 children on the island of Ireland.
Marian graduated from UCD as a secondary school teacher.
In 1991 she went on to work with her husband in their McDonalds restaurant chains.
She began her role as Volunteer CEO of the charity in 2000, becoming a full-time committed volunteer since 2004.
Marian’s volunteering commitment to the charity is carried out on a full-time basis and she can be seen hard at work, tweeting and Facebooking about events and families into all hours of the night!
She oversaw the building of the first Ronald McDonald House in Ireland in 2004 which provides accommodation for 20 families of sick children attending Crumlin Hospital, as she says herself, ‘she put on her don’t knock me down jacket and got stuck in with the builder’.
Marian is now currently spearheading the capital campaign to build a new 53-bedroom Ronald McDonald House at the New Children’s Hospital site in St James’s which is due to open in 2022.
