During the first Covid-19 lockdown, Shankill became home to an Irish woman-owned business, Moby and Mustard, which hopes to appeal to humans and ‘man’s best friend’ alike by combining style with substance, writes Rachel Cunningham.

Moby and Mustard offers luxury Irish-made dog beds and dog blankets that are designed and made from hard-wearing upholstery fabric, with fully washable covers. Not only are the stylish beds designed with durability in mind but they are also made to order, so that they can complement home interiors in addition to keeping canine companion’s comfortable.

Moby and Mustard also stock 100 per cent natural dog treats and chews and offer doggie natural treat boxes and even birthday boxes. Conscious of the environment, they also stock 100 per cent compostable poop bags and reusable doggie cleaning mitts.

Claudette Burke, owner of Moby and Mustard, set up the dog boutique in a renovated portakabin during the first lockdown. She started the business with just €1000 savings and no additional grants or financial assistance and hopes to inspire other potential entrepreneurs through the story of her thriving small business.
