It was more parting cup than Parting Glass as Lucan United won the Metropolitan Cup in their manager’s last game in charge.
It was a fond farewell for John Doyle as the long-serving first-team manager and all-round club man oversaw a prestigious cup win in his final game at the helm.
Doyle, who guided Lucan’s rise to Senior Sunday status, steps away from first-team duties this summer and leaves on a high thanks to a come-from-behind cup win.

The young yet experienced striker’s close-range header was adjudged to have crossed the line despite the Lucan netminder’s best efforts to keep it out Lucan were level by the break thanks to a composed finish from former Chelsea underage starlet Conor Clifford.

The central midfielder, who also boasts Portsmouth, Notts County, Southend, Dundalk and St Patrick’s Athletic on his CV, passed the ball home after it broke kindly to him 18 yards out.
The Clifford strike left things level at the turn and it remained all square up and unit 10 minutes to go before Gary Seery scored the what turned out to be the winner.
The midfielder found himself with time and space on the left-hand side of the area and with most expecting a cross or cut back he whipped a shot into the back of the net.
Bluebell pushed for a leveller late on Lucan held on to replace St Mochta’s as the cup holders.
Meanwhile, Corduff celebrated Lar Dunne Cup victory last week. The young side won the
Under-19 Cup thanks to an impressive 4-2 win over a strong Home Farm side.
The victory was the clubs fourth underage cup win in recent weeks following an under-14 Hollywood victory, Under-11 Paul Fitzgerald success and an Under-16 Redmond Cup win.
