The opening of the Lucan swimming pool is now delayed until at least October, it has been revealed, writes Rachel Cunningham.
This update came as part of the Capital Projects Report introduced by the South Dublin County Council Chief Executive.
The first public swimming pool to be built in Lucan, representatives from People Before Profit have criticised the delays to this project since construction began during the pandemic.
“The Lucan community has campaigned for decades to get a swimming pool built in Lucan. It’s absolutely crazy that they are still waiting for this much needed public amenity,” said People Before Profit TD for Dublin Midwest Gino Kenny.
“At this stage it seems it would have been quicker to build an outdoor pool at the Lucan Weir instead.”
Councillor Madeleine Johansson described the delay as unbelievable and expressed concern that the operation of the pool has been outsourced.
