Dundrum local Gabriel Corcoran founded Shilling Leather, an artisan leather goods producer that sells a range of handcrafted wallets made in Dublin, when a trip to Tuscany in 2021 inspired him to shift a lockdown hobby into a small independent business.

The fashion industry is estimated to account for 10 per cent of global pollution. In reaction to this, Gabriel explained that he wanted to create products designed to last a lifetime and improve with age.

“The world is overwhelmed with enough cheap materials and suspect fast-fashion, from disposable wallets to poorly made belts that fall apart. We started Shilling Leather with the belief that the little things we carry with us every day can make a big difference. We offer a durable, locally-made product that has a story behind it and will infuse your day, and your wardrobe, with character and style”, he commented.

Shilling Leather products are made entirely by hand using the highest grade Italian leather, sourced only from the finest tanneries in Tuscany that the brand states: “Work with nature, not against it”.

Gabriel continued: “Every step of the making process, from leather cutting and conditioning, to stamping and hand-stitching, is completed by hand in Dublin. We take great pride in our process with a constant focus on heirloom quality throughout, so that our products will become a familiar part of your day for years to come.

“We believe in the power of producing locally and the idea of creating something with a sense of place. We’re passionate about Ireland’s artisan traditions and Dublin’s creative community; Irish producers are known globally for their quality and craft and that reputation is central to everything we do.”

For those looking to support small Irish producers and to shop locally this festive season, Shilling Leather’s range of wallets are available for delivery nationwide ahead of Christmas. Each wallet is made to order and they advise getting in touch soon on www.shillingleather.ie to avoid disappointment.
