Works to begin on the redevelopment of Kildonan Park, Finglas in September

Fianna Fáil Councillor for Finglas-Ballymun, Keith Connolly, has welcomed news that the redevelopment of Kildonan Park in Finglas West will begin next month with the all-weather pitch.

The planning application for the redevelopment of the park was approved by elected members at the monthly Council meeting on the 4th of July 2022. The redevelopment will bring about significant improvements in the park including: A full-sized all-weather football pitch, with fencing and floodlighting. A Playground and small skate park, a half basketball court, outdoor table tennis, grass areas for bowling, boules and croquet, gym and exercise equipment, the park will also have tree lined paths with open grass areas. The Existing Larney Park/Finglas United Grounds is to be incorporated into the park.

Councillors received an update earlier this week, stating that It is expected that the works will take a year to complete as the Parks department wants to try and ensure that the park remains operational for walking and sports during the construction phase. It is hoped that the all weather will be completed by next spring and that some of the work will be based around the planting season.

“The redevelopment of Kildonan Park has been promised for over a decade and it’s great to finally see the project commence. Over €1 million has been secured for the redevelopment of the park through DCC Levies and the All-Weather Facilities Fund. I look forward to seeing the project progress in the coming months and I greatly welcome the plans to make the park a better facility for the community to enjoy. “Concluded Connolly
