International Day of Older Persons takes place tomorrow and the theme of this year’s event is ‘Digital Equity for all Ages’. Events coordinated by the dlr County Council’s Age Friendly and Social Inclusion Unit will take place across the county, in person and online, to celebrate ageing and to promote and support digital access for all.
To promote and support ‘Digital Equity for All Ages’, dlr Libraries will launch an ACORN Tablets Lending Scheme on the day. ACORN tablets are age friendly smart tablets designed with the older person in mind. The ACORN and further digital devices will be made available for loan to the public, nursing homes and day care centers around the County over the coming months.
The programme of events for the day are varied with something to suit everyone. There is an online beginners Zoom class, an Introduction to Healthy Food Made Easy course, a Dance Workshop, a 1-hour Hand Reflexology class and a Chair Exercise session.
Some in-person events include a mindfulness morning in Dundrum and a story telling event in the dlr Lexicon Library.
An Cathaoirleach, Lettie McCarthy will also participate in a commemorative tree planting ceremony on the day to remember loved ones lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.
All events are free but need to be booked in advance. To book a place and view the full programme of events, visit events.dlrcoco.ie
