Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services is inviting members of the public to sponsor a flower in memory of a lost loved one, as part of its annual Hospice Sunflower Days appeal.

For the second year in a row, this well-known on-street fundraiser cannot go ahead and instead takes a new form as Hospice Sunflower Days – Together we Remember, which gives people an opportunity to remember and celebrate a loved one.

To take part, people are invited to share their loved one’s name on a flower card and return it to Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services, with a donation of €5. The flower card will be placed in the hospice garden of choice: Harold’s Cross, Blackrock or Wicklow. Alternatively, people can choose to plant their card in their own garden, patio or a place of significance for a loved one.

Donations received will go towards supporting essential services, improving facilities and providing specialised medical equipment and funding for Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services therapeutic gardens.

Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services ambassador Maia Dunphy said: “Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services holds a special place in my heart since my grandmother was cared for there before her death 13 years ago. While time moves on, my gratitude for the experience she had in their care at the end of her life lives on and I am appealing to people to support the Hospice because its ability to fundraise has been really impacted by the pandemic, but the need for their service has never been greater.

As well as the flower cards, which can be purchased by contacting Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services, there is also an online shop on its website www.olh.ie where mementos and gifts can be purchased. Proceeds go towards providing the best of care for its patients in palliative care, rheumatology and rehabilitation and the residents of its care of the older person unit, Anna Gaynor House.
