Following criticism on the delays in delivering a primary care centre by Dublin City Councillor Noeleen Reilly, the HSE states that delays in the transference of land should be concluded in Quarter 2 this year.

“The legal process to transfer the land* is in progress and the HSE are engaging with all parties to complete this property transaction. It is anticipated this process will be concluded by Quarter 2, 2023, which will facilitate further progress through design and planning stages of the project including the submission of a planning application in due course.”

Upon completion of the legal process to transfer the land, the HSE will then be able to give a further update on the status of the proposed primary care centre for Finglas.

“In relation to the planned Finglas Primary Care Centre project, a design team has been engaged and work on the preliminary design is ongoing,” assured the HSE.

“At present, primary care services are provided in Finglas through four primary care teams. They are currently located in Wellmount Health Centre and Ballygall Health Centre. The addition of the planned Finglas Primary Care Centre will provide for the co-location of staff, enabling integrated delivery of services, in line with the goals of Sláintecare.”

Speaking to the Gazette last week, Cllr Reilly said,

“We have been talking about a Health Centre in Finglas for a decade now and yet we are still at the point where designs have not been produced! The whole project has been caught up in bureaucracy from the beginning and it is not fair on the community” she said.

*In consultations with the local planning authorities, the HSE initially identified ‘Fergal’s Field’ as a site for the health centre in June 2021. The plot of land was located behind two CDETB schools, Coláiste Eoin and Coláiste Íde CFE but was later ruled out as the land did not have road frontage. Lands owned by CDETB next to Fergal’s Field was then identified as a suitable plot it offered better access.
