Fingal residents, take the vitamin pills and get set for Fingal Libraries Bealtaine Festival 2022! In keeping with the tradition of the Celtic/pagan festival, ‘Bealtaine’ marks the start of the Celtic summer (and was also seen as the month to celebrate Our Lady the Blessed Virgin).

Hence, across the country, Bealtaine festivals will be held, to celebrate Ireland’s diversity in arts and creativity.  The Festival was officially launched on Wednesday, April 20 last by Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Seána Ó Rodaigh with Fingal County Librarian Betty Boardman also in attendance. The Festival returns to Fingal library branches for the first time in two years, having been hosted online in 2020 and 2021.

Creativity and wellness trend

This year, people are invited to take part in a chair yoga four-week course, a computer course for adults focusing on Google and its many products, an art course with John Carpenter and a series of creative writing workshops using the five senses and precious memories.

The Bealtaine schedule will also feature a mindfulness talk, biodiversity talks by the Irish Seal Sanctuary, first aid demonstrations by St John Ambulance, a presentation by a Mintel analyst on changing exercise and fitness trends plus a talk on preparing yourself in terms of fitness to walk the Camino.

Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Seána Ó Rodaigh said ‘Through a very varied Bealtaine programme of events, the citizens of Fingal are being given the opportunity to attend workshops and talks in their local library as part of this national celebration of creativity as we age”.

Fingal County Librarian, Betty Boardman said “We are delighted at Fingal Libraries to present this stimulating programme of events for Age and Opportunity’s Bealtaine Festival. Yoga, technology, art, crafts, creative writing and health workshops are all covered in the programme to foster and inspire creativity and to promote the skills and experiences that can lead to a rich creative life’.
