[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Community groups and volunteers across the county were recognised recently for the incredible work they do in their communities, at the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Community and Volunteer Awards 2018.
Now running for 23 years, the awards held at Radisson Blu St Helen’s, this year 51 community groups and 25 volunteers were formally recognised for their valuable contributions to community life.
The overall award went to the Dalkey Tidy Towns Committee.
Other winners included Central Dun Laoghaire Senior Citizens (Age Friendly), Dundrum Arts & Cultural Festival (Arts and Culture), Parents Making Children Aware (Child and Youth Development), Meadowbrook Residents Association (Community and Civic Pride), Glasthule Buildings (Environment), Purple House Cancer Support (Health and Wellbeing), Acquired Brain Injury Side by Side (Social Inclusion-Care Services), Open Spectrum (Social Inclusion-local Community Services).
Among the volunteer winners were recently featured in Dublin Gazette Eddie and Kathleen Sythes, who have been running classes for people with learning difficulties at The Ski Club of Ireland in Kilternan, who received a volunteer award.
Sean Mc Loughlin also received a Volunteer Award in recognition of his work with men’s sheds in dlr, and Ballinteer Men’s Shed collected third prize in the ‘Social Inclusion’ category on the night.
Speaking on the night, Cllr Ossian Smyth , Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council said: “These awards help to celebrate the excellent work achieved by our volunteers and groups of committed people working together, striving to make a difference in their respective communities.
“We are fortunate to have such talented and dedicated people across the county who give their time and energy to enhance the quality of life for our communities.
“The range of community activities is great and provides new opportunities for people to get involved in their Communities, learning new skills, meeting new people, and above all having fun while doing it.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
