Dublin Fire Brigade was alerted to a large wildfire, which engulfed Killiney Hill on Monday evening, writes Rachel Cunningham.

The crews continued to battle the blaze throughout the night and two firefighters experienced for minor injuries, for which they were taken to hospital. The Irish Air Corps helicopter also provided assistance to the operation.

A warning was issued to local residents to close the windows and doors of their homes to minimise smoke damage in the area.

The fire was successfully extinguished on Tuesday afternoon, July 26, but firefighters remained on-scene to manage any hotspots or flare ups.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has issued advice to stop wildfire and has asked that the public refrain from lighting camp fires or barbecues outside of designated ares and that they ensure that smoking materials are disposed of in a responsible manner.
