[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]The first meeting of Dáil Éireann in 1919 is set to be commemorated with a new €2 coin, to be launched into circulation this year.

One million of the new coins will enter circulation, with the Central Bank also issuing a new €100 gold coin to commemorate the centenary. The new coins have been designed by Emmet Mullins.

There will be 1,000 of these coins issued, available from January 16th when the new coins are launched at the capital’s Mansion House.

This is the second time that Central Bank have issued a special euro coin, following the issuing of 4.5 million special €2 coins in 1916 to commemorate the rising.

An annual mind set and a proof set with the new coin will also be issued later this year. The new coin will feature the words ‘An Chéad Dáil’, the Irish for ‘The First Dail’, surrounded by depictions of the first TDs who attended the first meeting.

The first meeting of Sinn Féin MPs that were elected to the House of Commons was held on January 21st, 1919, at the Mansion House, where Irish MPs abstaining from taking their seats in Westminster established their own parliament.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
