The man and woman who died when the car they were travelling in hit a lamppost in Butterfield Avenue yesterday have been named locally.
Dean Coleman (25) and Annemarie Hooper (aged in 30’s) tragically died at 1:30am on Tuesday morning at the scene of the accident which occurred near the junction with Ballyroan Road and Old Bridge Road.
The incident has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman for further examination with the results of a post-mortem expected soon.
Officials from GSOC are set to carry out inquiries into the events leading up to the crash before deciding if they will carry out a formal investigation into the fatal crash.
Garda say they had been alerted to a car driving in a suspicious manner and came across it at traffic lights on Butterfield Avenue where it sped off.
The garda car then followed before arriving upon the crashed vehicle.
