Earlier this week, the Local Drug & Alcohol Task Forces launched their pre-budget campaign at Buswell’s Hotel, Dublin.
Speaking at the launch, Cllir Daithí Doolan (SF for Ballyfermot-Drimnagh): said: “Local Drug Task Forces provide essential community based addiction services. Neither the private or public sector are willing or able to provide the services. Unfortunately consecutive Governments have under funded and hollowed out these services. Many services are now overstretched and under funded.
“This must change. Tackling the drugs crisis must once again move to the top of the Government’s agenda. The crisis has dramatically changed in recent years. The huge increase in crack cocaine, violence and intimidation has made the crisis even more complex and challenging. Funding for Drug Task Forces and their projects must be reinstated to 2008 levels
“The cuts imposed on task forces must be reversed in the next budget. Funding for Drug Task Forces and their projects must be reinstated to 2008 levels.
“The Government has an opportunity to turn the tide on the drugs crisis. Those living with addiction demand that happens as a matter of urgency.”
