Corina Johnston, local Labour party area representative has welcomed the decision by Fingal Co Co to provide inclusive playground equipment in the playground at Newbridge Demesne, Donabate.

Johnston said; “as part of my submission to Fingal Co Co’s ‘Space For Play’, A Play Policy for Fingal, which went on public display last August, I highlighted the importance of inclusivity in our playgrounds. “

She added: “Fingal is one of the youngest and fastest populations in the country.  The provision for recreational space, activities and equipment for teenagers, and children/teenagers with additional needs should be included in this policy and in recreational space throughout Fingal.

“An inclusive playground is intentionally designed so that children of all ages and abilities can play, be challenged, and have fun together. It goes beyond basic wheelchair accessibility and ensures that all children have an inviting and enjoyable playground experience.”

Ms Johnston requested equipment and easy access for wheelchair users, incorporating large ramps, sensory play panels, double width slides etc within her submission. She praised the council’s positive response to a question submitted by her Labour colleague Cllr Robert O’Donoghue on her behalf at a council meeting on January 13 last.
