A fitness instructor is using her spare time in lockdown to help locals get in shape for free.

Ciara Murray of Ci Fit gym in Clondalkin has offered three members of the community a personalised fitness programme.

The 33-year-old, who lives in Lucan with son Max and partner Dave, knew as a third lockdown commenced that “people out there were really suffering”.

She told Dublin Gazette: “I opened Ci Fit as an all-women studio as I knew that so many women with body issues wouldn’t set foot in a gym, and often felt intimidated next to bulky male bodies.”

Ciara decided to post a competition on her social media pages for three candidates to avail of a free personalised training programme, (similar to Operation Transformation) to run on Zoom.

Among the lucky winners was Mary Greene, 50, who reports that she’s already lost 5kg in less than a month.

Paula McLoughlin, mother of two young children was the second lucky winner.

She revealed: “I came from a Slimming World background and was a class leader prior to the pandemic. I also set up a Facebook page called ‘Finding a Balance’.

“Without my SW supports, I was struggling to maintain a balanced diet and exercise. I applied to Ciara’s Ci Fit competition and it’s been a Godsend. I’ve lost weight but better still, I’ve lost five per cent body fat and already I feel fitter, healthier and more positive in mind.”

Despite Ciara running a female only membership at Ci-Fit, she decided to make an exception with frontline worker Chris O’Dwyer.

Already, Chris has lost considerable weight, and found the programme has increased his activity and supported his mental well-being.

Having devised tailor-made workouts for Mary, Paula and Chris, Ciara also provided them with the equipment to do the workouts at home.

“They’ve become great friends over the weeks,” she said. “It’s not all about losing weight but getting fitter, feeling better and reducing body fat.”

Ciara is currently doing an online nutrition course, and working in tangent with South Dublin County Council Sports Partnership.

“I do zoom classes with clients, a free six-week course ‘Couch to 3k’, including pilates and fitness,” concluded Ciara.
